How to convert RTF to EPUB

  1. Add your RTF files

Drag one or more RTF files onto the dashed area, or tap it to pick them from your device.

  2. Choose EPUB and the options

EPUB is already selected; the options hold the settings that matter for this conversion.

  3. Convert and download

Press “Convert to EPUB”. When it’s done, download the files one by one or all together in a ZIP archive.

Good to know. Fonts, colours and very elaborate layouts are simplified: the structure (headings, lists, tables) is what’s preserved.

RTF

Rich Text Format

An old Microsoft format that describes text, bold, tables and images with text commands. Precisely because it’s simple, almost every program opens it, from WordPad to TextEdit.

Best for
Exchanging formatted text with very different or older programs.
Limits
It doesn’t handle complex layouts well; files with images are heavy.

Electronic Publication

The open e-book standard: the text adapts to the screen and to the font size the reader chooses. Almost every e-reader and reading app supports it, and Kindle accepts it too via “Send to Kindle”.

Best for
Reading books, manuals and long articles on e-readers and phones.
Limits
Fixed layouts (magazines, comics) adapt poorly.

Questions about RTF and EPUB

Are the images in the document kept?

Yes, images embedded in the RTF are copied into the EPUB.

Are my RTF files uploaded to a server?

No. The conversion from RTF to EPUB happens entirely in your browser, using your device’s computing power. Files aren’t sent or stored anywhere: when you close the page they’re gone from memory too.

How many files can I convert at once?

Up to 100 files at a time. There’s no fixed size limit: it depends on your device’s memory. On smartphones it’s best to work in smaller batches with heavy files such as videos.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes, with up-to-date Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Samsung Internet. On phones, converted files end up in the Downloads folder or the Files app.

Do I need an internet connection?

Only to open the page (and, the first time, to download the components needed for that type of file). After that the conversion keeps working even if the connection drops.
