OCR: extract text from images and scanned PDFs
Photos of documents, scans, screenshots: the text is recognised on your device and becomes editable or searchable.
How to use it
-
Upload images or PDFs
Sharp, straight photos give the best results.
-
Choose language and output
English, Italian, Spanish or French; text, Word, Markdown or searchable PDF.
-
Download
Recognition happens in your browser: the first time it downloads 5 to 11 MB of data, depending on the language.
Accepted formats: PDF, JPG, PNG, WEBP, BMP, TIFF, GIF, HEIC.
Questions about OCR
What is a searchable PDF?
It’s the PDF of the scan with the recognised text on top, invisible but selectable: you can search for words and copy them while keeping the original look.
How accurate is it?
With printed text and sharp images it’s usually over 95% accurate. Handwriting isn’t recognised reliably.
Are the files uploaded online?
No. Processing happens in your browser, on your device: files aren’t sent to any server and are cleared from memory when you close the page.
Is it free? Do I need to sign up?
It’s free, with no sign-up and no watermarks on the results.
